Gabriola Laughs

November 13th, 7:00 PM @ The Surf Lodge Comedians : Kerry Unger, Troy Stark, Shirley Stark, Blayne Smith, Angel Woodhams

Over the past 25 years Kerry Unger has established himself as one of Canada’s top comedy acts. His likability has won the approval of audiences across North America and his originality has won the respect of his peers. Aside from comedy, Kerry is also a published cartoonist and a singer-songwriter. He’s a current resident of Gabriola Island, a Pisces, enjoys reading, long walks, world travel and…is ruggedly handsome. At six-foot-three, Kerry is able to reach things most other comics can only dream of!

Shirley Stark’s unabashed style of twisted optimism has delighted audiences everywhere from a nudist resort in northern Canada to a luxury hotel in Abu Dhabi. She has repeatedly featured in both the SheDot and Dark Comedy Festivals in Toronto, was runner-up in the city’s first Roast Battle Tournament, and named ‘ Best of the Fest’ at the Big Pine Comedy Festival in Flagstaff, AZ back in 2015. Shirley now makes her home on Gabriola where she lives a blissful life in the woods, but can still be heard on Sirius XM’s Canada Laughs or talking to boaters on VHF radio near Silva Bay.

Troy Stark’s unbelievable life stories make him one of Canada’s most captivating performers. He’s been involved in countless festivals including ZooFest OFF-JFL, Montreal Fringe Fest, The Dark Comedy Festival (where he MC’d for Brian Posehn and Robert Kelly) along with his own #NomadSummer Tours. Troy has also been featured on SiriusXM’s Canada Laughs, MTV Canada. Among his many creations include The NerdyShow, which has showcased in front of sold-out crowds at FanExpo Canada, Montreal ComicCon and Ottawa ComicCon, and his debut album #TheKingOfClubs which be found on iTunes, Google Play, or Spotify.

Blayne has been a resident of Gabriola for a whopping 35 years and part of the Comedy Community for 10. Influenced by Dave Chappelle and Dennis Lear, Blayne works hard for his money but tells jokes just for smiles in his spare time.

Angel has been active in the Gabriola Comedy Scene ever since her friends demanded that she take the stage one drunken night ten years ago. Since that fateful night in which she fell in love with comedy, Angel may now be better known by her stage name, “Strangel,” which suits her perfectly.
